Following in the footsteps of Andhra Pradesh, which announced a reduction of Rs 2 in petrol and diesel prices that came into effect on Tuesday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on the same day announced that the state would usher in a reduction of Rs 1 in fuel prices. The same goes into effect by midnight today.
Mamata said that the decision had been taken considering the exorbitant prices of fuel in the country. In the past few weeks, petrol and diesel prices had seen a hike, almost every other day. In Mumbai, petrol price has inched close to Rs 90 per litre.
