SHOCKING - 5.7 CRORE INDIANS ADDICTED TO ALCOHOL AND IN NEED OF HELP, SAYS SURVEY

A recent survey on the Magnitude of Substance Abuse in India conducted by the government churned out shocking findings. It was found that out of the 16 crore people who consume alcohol in India, 5.7 crores suffer from alcohol-related problems and are in need of medical help.
The survey was conducted by the National Drug Dependence Treatment Centre (NDDTC) of AIIMS. It was also found that the prevalence of alcohol consumption in men is 17 times more than in women. Reportedly, over four lakh children and 18 lakh adults are subjected to inhalant abuse and dependence.
The survey revealed that high consumption levels have been reported in Tripura, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Chhattisgarh and Arunachal Pradesh. Out of the 3.1 crore Indians who consume cannabis, 72 lakh need help for their cannabis use problems.
