At least 18 people died during New Year celebrations in separate incidents across India, say reports. Five men drowned in the Damodar river in West Bengal on Sunday, while five others were killed after their car was hit by a truck in Hooghly district of the State. In another incident, three boys were feared drowned in Ganga river near Bihar’s Bhagalpur district on Monday when a country boat capsized. Also, a 24-year-old man under the influence of alcohol crushed four people, who were also in the car, to death in Andhra Pradesh’s Kadapa district.
