Retired South African batsman Graeme Smith holds the record for most Test matches as a captain. Smith became the first cricketer to make 100 Test match appearances as captain when he led out the Proteas against Pakistan at Johannesburg in February 2013. The left-hand batsman has won 48 of his 100 matches as captain and scored 26 Test match hundreds.
