Govt decriminalises suicide attempt

The Lok Sabha, in the Mental Health Bill passed on Monday, reportedly decriminalised attempt to suicide by making it non-punishable under the Indian Penal Code. Union Health Minister J P Nadda reportedly said the bill ensures that the rights of a child with his/her mother will also be maintained. The bill also imposes restrictions on sterilisation of mentally ill person, electroconvulsive therapy and the procedure therapy among others.
