In the 2017 Goa Assembly election, Congress had won 17 seats and BJP had bagged 13. According to reports, BJP managed to get the support of local outfits and independent candidates and met Governor Mridula Sinha to stake claim to form the government on Sunday. Notably, Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has been asked by the Governor to take over as the CM .
