Government likely to exempt buffaloes from 'no slaughter' list

According to reports, the Indian government is likely to exempt buffaloes from the recently published 'no slaughter' list. AN Jha, Secretary in the Union Environment Ministry, reportedly told IANS that "We have received some representations over the list of animals included in the new cattle slaughter rules. We are working on it." Notably, the central government has faced stiff opposition from some states, including Kerala. Meanwhile, the tanning industry owners in vellore have also asked the Centre to remove buffaloes from the list.
