According to reports, the German Interior Ministry is planning a new law that will allow authorities to access personal cell phone data of asylum seekers without a warrant or consent for identity check. Currently, the Federal Office of Migration and Refugees needs consent to obtain data from a person’s mobile phone. However, an official of the Interior Ministry reportedly said authorities were to make use of the proposed law only in “exceptional cases.”
