Sometimes fact is stranger than fiction and affirming this point is the revelation by one of the screenwriters who created the character Captain Jack Sparrow, Ted Elliott, when he revealed the same was inspired by shades of Lord Krishna!
If you recall the franchise, Jack Sparrow played by the fantastic Johnny Depp has wit, trickery and cunning as his primary traits and it's not very different from what Lord Krishna is known for in Indian mythological tales.
“Jack Sparrow’s character in Pirates of the Caribbean is one of the most integral part of the film. The characterization of Sparrow is based on Lord Krishna who is a major deity in Hinduism. While writing the character sketch of Jack Sparrow, we referred to the description of Lord Krishna, various shades of the Almighty, which helped us a lot in making the whole character of Jack Sparrow into existence," the writer was quoted as saying.
