Following Punjab, the state of Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday amended the Excise Act allowing hotels, bars, restaurants, and clubs on highways to serve liquor. This comes after the state government on April 5 re-notified its 16 State highways to major district roads to benefit liquor vends. Notably, the Supreme Court had barred the sale of liquor on shops, hotels, and bars within 500 metres of highways.
