Tamil Nadu fisheries department has decided not to allow the Greater Chennai Corporation's plan to construct a wholesale fish market at Kotturpuram. According to reports, the fisheries department has objected to the Rs 8 crore worth project as the proposal envisaged to create the market on the banks of the Buckingham Canal. The fisheries department has raised a concern that the canal might become a dumping ground for the contaminated fish.
