Following the promulgation of section 144 at Marina beach and its surrounding areas since January 28, 2017, Commissioner of Police S.George, revoked the prohibitory law on Saturday. The commissioner in a statement said that the section 144 promulgated at Marina was rescinded after present assessment indicated that there was no need for the law under Criminal Procedure Code. Meanwhile, an administrative order under section 41 of the Chennai City Police Act has been enforced, imposing a ban on assemblies, processions, demonstrations, fasts across Marina and its surrounding areas.
