In a bid to celebrate the culture of its Tamil population each year, the Canadian Parliament passed the Motion M-24, to designate January as Tamil Heritage Month. Canada will recognize the contributions that Tamil-Canadians have made to Canadian society, the Tamil language and culture, and the importance of educating and reflecting upon Tamil heritage for future generations. Notably, various municipalities across the country had previously declared January as Tamil Heritage Month.
