TikTok was among the 59 Chinese applications which were banned last month in India citing that it possess a threat to the sovereignty, security, and public order. Soon after India, the US had also started planning on banning the application.

In order to cater to the users in India and the US, ByteDance has decided to change its corporate structure, by relocating its headquarters outside China. This way, the company can be operated users freely. “As we consider the best path forward, ByteDance is evaluating changes to the corporate structure of its TikTok business. We remain fully committed to protecting our users' privacy and security as we build a platform that inspires creativity and brings joy for hundreds of millions of people around the world,” TikTok told the Economic Times.

This decision is being taken by the company by keeping the best interest of the content creators, partners, users, employees, and policy makers.

The app has about 200 million users from India. It was downloaded more than 600 million times since its launch in India. Further, 2000 plus people have been employed under ByteDance in India.

Officials had also questioned the company to see if user data was being shared with the Chinese government. But the app has been repeatedly denied the same.
