Home > News Shots > BusinessAs schools and universities are increasingly shifting their base online in order to continue classes during the pandemic, ed tech has emerged as one of the top sectors that has been hiring rampantly despite the lockdown. Edtech companies such as Gradeup, Vedantu, Simplilearn, upGrad, Unacademy, Masai School and others are hiring product managers and educators.
Krishna Kumar, CEO and founder of Simplilearn believes that the lockdown has been a ‘gamechanger’ when it comes to the edtech sector since they have witnessed a sudden surge in number of students and professionals enrolling of courses.
According to an estimate released by ManpowerGroup, almost 12,000 vacancies are there in edtech companies in India, as of June. Another 90,000 jobs are available for contractual workers.
Simplilearn also has 100 job openings for permanent roles and 500 vacancies for specialized or gig roles according to the CEO. “At Simplilllearn, we witnessed a 30% jump in enrollments between March and April 2020. When hiring was aoolways part of the plan, the current phase has also triggered the need for more manpower to cater to this rising demand,” Kumar told Business Insider.
Masai school is planning to add nearly 20 people including Lead instructors, curriculum leads, technical mentors, marketing manager, admissions counselor and subject matter experts.
Gradeup has witnessed a 25% surge in daily enrollments, especially live classes for JEE and NEET.
Whereas Whitehat Jr. Is doubling the number of employees and teachers to meet the month on month increase in student enrollments. They are planning to hire 1,500 teachers and 400 other staff.
The rise in jobs is a result of increased demand for online learning.
