Emirates made announcements regarding job cuts last week but did not give any specific numbers. Emirates group, which includes air- services firm Dnata has reduced around 3000 employees, almost a third of its total workforce according to Bloomberg’s report.
In the termination letter the company reportedly mentioned, “Every business has had to re-examine its processes and resources to match the operational and support requirement in the months ahead.”
The letter also mentioned that, “you will receive your contractual basic salary
and fixed allowances applicable to your grade and position until your last day of service on Sept. 13,” it said.
Similarly, Flydubai, which has an extensive partnership with Emirates, has announced unpaid leave to its employees and conveyed the same to them through an emailed statement.
“Airlines around the world have been thrown into crisis by the coronavirus pandemic, which destroyed demand for travel as countries closed borders to contain the spread. Governments have put aside billions of dollars in bailout packages to help some carriers stay in operation, with a recovery expected to be gradual through 2022,” Bloomberg cited in its report.
Emirates President Tim Clark told the media earlier that the double-decker A380, which can seat more than 500 passengers, will be able to return to the skies only after the development of a coronavirus vaccine.
