The Interpol on Monday issued a red corner notice against fugitive and billionaire diamond jeweller Nirav Modi in connection with a multi-crore bank-fraud case in India. A red corner notice (RCN) is reportedly the international equivalent of an arrest warrant.
The Central Bureau of Investigation had approached the Interpol last month to issue an RCN against Modi. The police administration of the 190-member countries of the Interpol is now obliged to locate and arrest Modi.
Modi, his uncle Mehul Choksi and brother Neeshal had cheated of more than Rs 13,000 crore from Punjab National Bank. Before the bank could find out, the trio made a run for it and was not able to be traced. Reportedly, the Interpol has issued a red corner notice to his brother, Neeshal Modi and his close aide, Subhash Parab as well.
