The Indian Hotel and Restaurant Association (AHAR) which has 8,000 members nationally has said it is boycotting Zomato's Gold on delivery program over allegations of delivery from illegally-run kitchens, steep discounts and unavailability of delivery executives.
“We are not promoting Gold on delivery, we are telling all our members all over the state of Maharashtra that they should not enroll themselves into this (Zomato Gold on delivery), and if they have, they should discontinue," Santosh Shetty, president, Indian Hotel & Restaurant Association was quoted as saying by Mint.
Launched in September this year, Gold on delivery offers complimentary items to diners on their home-delivery orders. When it was rolled out, 13,000 restaurant partners had signed up to be part of the program.
In August, hundreds of restaurants logged out of Zomato and Swiggy to express their disappointment over the offers rolled out by the platforms. As a result, representatives of both the organizations met with the top members of NRAI to reach a more level playing field.
