In what can be seen as a Leicester City moment of Indian football, Aizawl FC, a club with a vest-pocket like budget on Sunday became the first club from the Northeast to clinch the I-League title after playing a 1-1 draw in the derby against Shillong Lajong. Aizawl FC ended the league with 37 points while Mohun Bagan finished second with 36 points. Aizawl FC was relegated last season but was reinstated after two Goan clubs pulled out of the tournament.
