UNESCO World Heritage Committee on Saturday has reportedly announced Ahmedabad as India’s first World Heritage City. Nearly 20 nations supported its entry, citing its architecture and secular co-existence of Jain, Islamic, and Hindu communities. Delhi and Mumbai were also shortlisted, but the Centre chose Ahmedabad as India's entry in 2016.
