Following his meeting with party vice president Rahul Gandhi, retired cricketer and politician Navjot Singh Sidhu on Sunday, joined the Congress ahead of the Punjab assembly elections this year. Meanwhile, congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala  tweeted, "INC welcomes S.Navjot Singh Sidhu & thanks, Rahul Gandhiji for bringing like-minded leaders under the Congress umbrella.” Notably, the 58-year-old had walked away from the BJP last year, complaining that he had been sidelined, and went on to start his party, Awaaz e Punjab.
