An RTI query has revealed that only 10% of the Chennai's 36,442 mobile towers have monitors to ensure that radiation levels are within levels safe for human exposure. However, the reply did not reveal the reason for DoT monitoring just 10% of all mobile towers. Other reports suggest that shortage of workforce as the reason behind this lag.
