According to data by elections watchdog Association for Democratic Reforms, 80% of MLAs in the new Assembly are crorepatis, among them 79% are from BJP, which got a sweeping mandate with 312 seats in the recently concluded Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. Reportedly, 143 of the 402 MLAs who have been analysed have criminal cases against them, while 107 have serious criminal charges.
