The US Geological Survey on Thursday reported that an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 struck some 40km southeast of the town of Taron on the New Ireland Island, Papua New Guinea. The quake rocked at a depth of some 47km at around 03:36 GMT. According to USGS, no tsunami warning was issued. There have been no reports of damage or casualties so far.
