According to a data analysis by the Quint, as many as 218 Padma awards have been conferred to Indian who excelled in the field of sports from 1954 to 2017. The 218-member list contains a total of 54 cricketers, which is nearly 25%, of these awards while 34 awards went to mountaineers. Notably, this year’s Padma awards include two cricketers, Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni, who will be conferred with Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan respectively.
