Tamil Nadu Municipal administration minister SP Velumani has reportedly said that over 1,600 tonnes of waste plastic have been used to lay over 1,000 km length of roads in the State in the last five years. The initiative is part of the government's emphasis on creating a plastic-free environment. Self-help groups are being trained to promote the collection, segregation and shredding of plastic, say reports.
