Batting first the Windies would score 252 in the first innings and would take a decisive lead of 39 after bowling out Australia for 213. West Indies were bowled out for 146 in their second innings, leaving Australians a massive 185-run target. Chasing the target Australia would end up in deep trouble only for tailenders McDermott and May to set up a valiant 40 run partnership for the last wicket. However, McDermott would be adjudged caught behind when they needed just 2 runs to win.
