LAVAKUSA MOVIE REVIEW
"Adi, Pidi, Vedi, Puka" is the lyric from the title song of Lava Kusa and the movie is exactly how it sounds; it fights, it has chases, it has gunfire, and it has the smoke of suspense in it. The movie, directed by Gireesh Mano has been written by actor Neeraj Madhav who also does the title role of Lava in the movie. Produced by Jaison Elamgulam, the movie also features Aju Varghese, Biju Menon, Vijay Babu, Deepthi Sati, Ashwin Kumar and Major Ravi in prominent roles.
Neeraj Madhav and Aju Varghese play the title roles of Lava and Kusa in the movie which falls into the comedy thriller genre. The plot revolves around two losers who meet in Chennai and decide to work together by starting a casting agency in Kerala. On their journey back home they unknowingly help an undercover police officer named JK (Biju Menon) in solving a case. The actual plot kicks in here as this incident impels them to start a detective agency. But, fate had something else planned for them.
There are many strong points in the movie that makes it entertaining, beginning with Biju Menon. He is in a stylish mass avatar in the movie and effortlessly cracks jokes as well as adds an amount of mysteriousness into it. The background score by Gopi Sunder is another highlight that stands out with captivating tunes that have mass, thrill and every required element in it. Humor is simple and present throughout the screenplay. It has been dealt pretty neatly and generates laughter at regular intervals.
Neeraj Madhav has done a decent job with the story, the screenplay and the dialogues. Despite having nothing extraordinarily fresh or new in it, the story is a decent thriller with some cliche twists and suspense. The direction by Gireesh Mano is good, and the movie would've been more engaging and tightly packed if the duration of the movie had been cut short by trimming out some sequences that did not actually matter to the story.
Biju Menon's performance is very entertaining as usual, and the role of JK cements him as a Super Entertainer. Neeraj and Aju swiftly handle their characters and carries a big load of comedy on their shoulders. Major Ravi, Deepthi Sati, Ashwin Kumar and Vijay Babu perform their parts decently. The cinematography by Prakash Velayudhan is good and has all that the movie demands. The songs in the movie did not fly as high as the background score and were average.
