Actor Jayasurya and director Ranjit Sankar are known for their association in producing many super hits and critically acclaimed films like Punyalan Agarbattis (2013), Su Su Sudhi Vathmeekam (2015) and Pretham (2016). But the Thrissur-based businessman 'Joy Thakkolkaran' in Punyalan Agarbattis is the most iconic character in Jayasurya's whole career.
Jayasurya made his debut as a producer by co-producing the film Punyalan along with Ranjit Sankar. It was Jayasuriya's first film directed by Ranjith Sankar and was followed by Su Su Sudhi Vathmeekam in 2015. His performance in the movie won Jayasurya a special jury award at the 46th Kerala State Film Awards and also a special mention at the 63rd National Film Awards.
The big success of Punyalan Agarbattis gave Jayasurya great recognition, and the actor always shared that there is a high demand from the audience for a Punyalan Agarbattis 2. The director and the actor sat and discussed many times to bring a project to life, but they always wanted to create something better than the first part. After a long wait of 4 years, they have finalized a script and Jayasurya will play 'Joy Thakkolkkaran' again in the second part of Punyalan Agarbattis directed by Ranjith Sankar. Jayasurya himself announced the news about the film whose first part had Nyla Usha, Innocent, Sreejith Ravi and Aju Varghese in lead roles.
