A couple of days ago, Kamal Haasan had lashed out at the Central Government's decision to place film industry at 28% tax slab under GST. Kamal Haasan insisted on lowering the tax rate for film industry or else he will quit cinema.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has asked celebrities not to pressurize the government by using media as a propaganda. Speaking to the media, Arun Jaitley said, “We will look at each and every representation. But using the media as a propaganda to pressurize the government is not going to work. We won’t be arm-twisted”.
He also added, “Weighted average of entertainment tax was 29.1 percent, which would be only 28 percent under GST. There could be teething troubles early on but said post-GST rates will be effectively less than current rates”.
