Known for his realistic and critical representation of village life in his movies, director Bharathiraja is one of the finest directors the Tamil cinema industry has seen. With his directorial debut 16 Vayathinile he shot to fame, making a ‘first to be shot completely outdoors’ movie, setting various trends in the industry to come. Coming out with a slew of films such as Siggappu Rojakkal, Kizhakkae Pogum Rail, Mann Vasanai, Nizhalgal and Mudhal Mariyadhai, there was no stopping him thereafter.
At the Behindwoods Gold Summit he was presented with a Gold Medal for Best Acting Performance for his role in Pandianadu.
He started off with his trademark opening line - “En Iniya Tamizh Makkalae” and had a few anecdotes to share.
“I had come to Chennai a long time back to act, but the audience accepted me in another line.
I feel funny acting, but I’m happy that I have been accepted for my acting skills in front of the camera as well. I’m proud that after four generations I am sharing the dais with Sivakarthikeyan, Dhanush and Anirudh.
