Lots
of reviews have already come up singing
Hosannas about VTV; but I couldn't help
myself to stay away from writing a few
lines about this awesome movie experience.
Honestly speaking, I have watched this
movie 4 times in five days and still I
am not willing and not able to come out
of the movie. I watch a lot of movies
but don’t remember watching any
movie other than Mozhi with such madness.
Such is the impact of the movie on me
and probably I feel a lot more youngsters
would agree with me. Just when I was thinking
that only I have gone crazy-a friend of
mine told me that he has also watched
it thrice already. It was not like seeing
a movie but instead I felt like I was
reading the pages of my diary. The love,
the romance, the longing, the separation
and the pain and everything else which
KARTHIK undergoes in this movie must have
been experienced by a lot of ordinary
middle class youths and hence everyone
will be able to relate to VTV.
I don’t want to say that the movie
is the best romantic film or that it is
a masterpiece and all. But everyone who
watches the movie will definitely feel
that VTV has got to be among the top list
of romantic movies which has portrayed
realism in love all the way. Yes, VTV
is so real that it tugs at your heart
strings. There is nothing artificial to
it. I am still unable to come out of the
shock this movie gave me. I have never
watched a movie with such involvement.
It seems Gautham has woven

the story from the incidents in my life and may be
a lot more people who are/were in love. The involvement
was so high that I even memorized Jessie's telephone
number. And also found a very very very negligible
fault in the movie. The scene where Karthik comes
out of Satyam theater, there is a hoarding stating
"Jessie- A movie by Karthik" with Manoj
Paramhamsa as the DOP but actually Karthik pays advance
to Ganesh to be the Cinematographer. I am not mentioning
this here as a fault but it is a proof to the fact
that the movie absorbs your mind and heart so much
that we enjoy each and every frame, location, dialogue,
songs and what not??? You are amazing Gautham sir.
Gautham makes action movies at breakneck speed but
when it comes to romance he lets LOVE take its own
time and flow. So is VTV and so was Vaaranam Aayiram;
some may complain about the second half being slow
but personally I felt that there is no scene which
is unwanted or which hampers the screenplay. The magical
touch of Gautham in romantic stories has been elaborately
discussed in BEHINDWOODS of late and with VTV also
he doesn't disappoint his fans. He has given his heart
and soul into the movie and has let the story grow
in its own flow.
Gautham's movies generally have at least 10 stand
out scenes/sequences which we can keep on watching.
VTV has plenty of them as well but more than the scenes,
the dialogues/conversations in the movie really penetrate
into the soul of the watcher. Every meeting of KARTHIK-JESSIE
is nothing short of magical poetry and the dialogues
further elevate the scenes to such a higher level
that cannot be explained but has to be experienced.
The growth of love and the havoc played by circumstances
have been neatly arranged and assembled by Gautham.
In the first sight, Karthik falls for her. In their
second, he approaches her, in the third, he proposes
and so on...There are 12 situations in the movie where
the two meet and each of them makes us feel the love
and fall in love. Each of their meetings is just magical
as said in the movie. These meetings are the base
of the movie and they stand out like carved statues.
And I can boldly bet Silambarasan cannot get such
a role in his entire career (Not that he does not
have the potential). Nowhere in the movie can you
see the star SILAMBARASAN but only KARTHIK the boy
next door. Who could have even imagined that there
is such an amazing actor in the mass hero Silambarasan?
With this single movie, he takes the second spot among
the list of romantic heroes only next to Suriya. One
can keep on watching his performance without blinking
even the eyelids. The subtlety he shows, the way his
eyes and face speak are a treat to the eyes. One cannot
single out any particular scene in his performance
because he hits a SIX in every ball. To name them,
the bubbly joy of falling in love which he shows to
perfection in Hosanna, his anger before proposing,
his romance in the train, his sadness upon hearing
about Jessie's marriage, his anger at Jessie when
she complicates every little thing are all Superbbbbbbbb.
And the top three are the sequence in the police station
when he says" sir, ava kalyanam ninnu pochu sir";
the night scene at the boathouse when Jessie opens
up her mind and finally the scene in the CENTRAL PARK.
Anybody who has experienced love will surely have
at least a drop of tear rolling down the cheek. Even
his modulation is excellent. Sometimes low and sometimes
full of anger, sometimes overjoyed!!!
So is Jessie alias Trisha! What Mozhi was to Jyothika,
VTV is to this Malayalee Christian from Alleppey.
Those eyes and face convey a whole lot of expressions
that you sometimes tend to notice the dialogues. Sometimes
those eyes hide the love and look absolutely normal
and sometimes they pour love. The character has a
lot of complexions as most of the girls have and Trisha
has lived her role. When she chats with Silambarasan
in the backwaters of Alleppey, when she tries to hide
the love in friendship (Satyam theater scene), and
towards the climax when she says in her mind"
enna romba verukkadha Karthik", she makes the
audience fall in love with Jessie.
And now to ARR- never in Tamil cinema in the recent
past has the BGM suited the storyline as much as it
has done in VTV and never have the songs complimented
the story in such a poetic way. This album is in no
way of International standard; it is much beyond and
above that! It seems to have come down from paradise.
Hosanna, Omana penne and Mannipaaya will be etched
in the memories of the viewers for eternity. If the
songs are too good beyond description, the BGM surpasses
even the songs. The guitar specially !!!! This is
Rahman's best BGM score till date. Sometimes it haunts
you, sometimes the BGM is mute, but the BGM to each
and every scene is perfect! Thank you Rahman for your
mesmerizing, magical music. And Manoj seems to be
developing into the next big thing. He has executed
the plans of the director accurately through his camera.
The lighting specially is awesome.
Coming to Gautham, I feel humbled to describe his
effort. We all know how good he is at romance, but
through VTV he leaps further! The manner in which
he has woven this magical screenplay, the way in which
he has extracted the best from his technicians and
artistes, for the smile and tears he has given us.
You deserve a biggg applause, salute, hug and lots
of love. Just want to say, we look forward to more
from you, more often. This is completely a director's
movie and VTV belongs to the king of romance "Mr.Gautham
Vausdev Menon".
There are absolutely no sore points in the movie.
Though after watching it 4 times, I felt that Gautham
for all his efforts could have been a tad better in
showing the reason for Jessie's decision to part ways.
i.e. the portion from where Karthik leaves to GOA
till the split. Her confusion, her inability could
have been told in a detailed manner rather than just
thro SMS.
LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST, there is one scene which simply
makes me fly in the skies, and that is the midnight
meeting between the two after Jessie's marriage is
stopped!
What
a scene, how beautiful it is; Each and every dialogue,
the expressions, the background, the cinematography,
the music ...... Oh My GOD!!!! There cannot be a
better scene to describe love and that scene sums
up what VTV is all about - LOVE IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL
THING ON EARTH !!!
Please don’t miss VTV- you will surely fall
in love with it !!!!
Gautham, ARR, Silambarasan and Trisha---- just the
dialogue which says" indha vali enaku pidichiriku"
I want to say " indha padam enaku romba pidichiruku,
thank u Gautham"
and also I LIKE THE PAIN !
Best Regards
