One
movie that’s making waves not only
across Chennai but also across the young
hearts is – yes, you guessed it
right– Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa
(VTV). The title appeals to any lover
who yearns for reciprocation of his love.
That way one identifies himself with the
movie even before watching it, not to
mention about his feelings after watching
it.
The commonest of setbacks in an Indian
boy-girl relationship such as the girl
being elder to the boy, family background,
girl’s skepticism etc. that usually
crop up towards the middle of a typical
Indian love story are palpably evident
within the first few minutes which makes
the viewer put oneself in Karthik’s
(Silambarasan)/Jessi’s (Trisha)
shoes. From thereon, they see themselves
on screen smiling, crying, happy, disturbed,
longing, hating, pining, jumping, peeking,
fighting, calling, SMSing et al from within
Karthik and Jessi. Despite the fact that
the movie makes every viewer crave for
the coming together of Karthik and Jessi
for they make a fine-looking pair, the
villain comes, not in the form of girl’s
father, but in the form of a battle within
and between the hearts of the boy and
the girl that pulls them back and this
has been portrayed so well that it makes
the story very much relevant to anyone
in love. This also makes one say aloud
to others, “This is my story!”
This thought blinds one from the sometimes-dragging
screenplay, some clichéd frames
and few other negative aspects of the
film. |
