I
saw Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa two days
back. It was a beautiful movie. I can
easily say that this is the best on screen
love pair after Madhavan and Shalini in
Alaipayuthey. I was very happy to see
the credit for Rajeev Menon for the title.
I thought 'At last we have got a director
who is courageous enough to say that he
has taken something from somewhere'.But
has only the title been taken from somewhere?
I doubt...
What about the theme of the movie Mr.Gautham
Vasudev Menon?
I couldn't help myself from comparing
the story of Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa
and the movie 'Before the Sunrise' which
released in 1995 and its sequel 'Before
the sunset' which released in 2004. Now,
let me come to the story of these two
English movies.
It is simple,
Boy meets girl
They both love each other
They get split (for different reasons,
not the same as in VTV)
The guy writes a book about their love
and it becomes the best seller in US.
The girl reads the book and then meets
the guy, but they are already married
to different persons. Is this story not
similar to VTV if you just interchange
the word 'book' with 'movie'?
I
am not saying that the director has copied
but

is a definite inspiration from this movie. Even the
movie 'Pachaikili Muthucharam' was inspired from the
movie 'Derailed', but I didn't see any credit to the
original movie.
So why was credit given to Rajeev Menon, is it because
we know about it?
Still VTV is a wonderful movie, the best I have seen
in recent times. It is a must watch, but I would have
been happier if the credit was given to 'Before the
sunset'.
Thanks
