Though couple of films like Vasanth's 'Rhythm' and the recent 'Angadi Theru' (the opening scene) has shown "accident" scenes -- the former involving two trains and the latter a bus losing control -- nothing like the sort of "Engeyum Eppothum" has ever shown in Tamil films. For this alone, pats to debutant director Saravanan for his novel, neat approach.
The characters of the lead artist are molded in such a way as if the persons donning the role are really possessing those characters. Be it the calm and cool Chennai boy Sarva or Ananya's sister...Jai has done couple of movies earlier also with the "ennange" approach towards his sweetheart. But in this film he portrays a typical lower middle clash bachelor falling in love with a girl older then him. The characters in contrast are well defined in Jai-Anjali love.
Dialogues are very touchy and simple. Kudos once again to dialogue writers Saravanan. Small..small characters in the buses, a Romeo, a girl child, a sleepy man often enquiring whether Villupuram has reached.. all these add to the stormy screenplay. I personally feel this character could have been extended till the accident event. Of course, a boy's father compelling his son for marriage over phone occurs when the hero is beside the heroine. It happens here too.
Having told the climax within five minute, it is really an uphill task for the director to maintain momentum throughout the film. Not even a single scene keeps you bored.
A must watch movie.. T Arvind arvindthirumalai@gmail.com
