If
you thought the re union of
Karan, King Khan and Kajol after
almost a decade was not reason
enough to watch this movie,
yes, you thought right. There
is so much more to celebrate,
so much more to look forward
to, that the above statement
meekly fades into insignificance.
Perhaps it would be safe to
say that this is the best thing
that has happened to Bollywood
since TAARE ZAMEEN PAR, if not
better.
Shahrukh, easily delivers the
performance of his career as
Rizwan Khan(Yeah this is after
taking into account his, subtle
yet magnificent portrayal as
Kabir Khan, the hockey coach
in CHAK DE INDIA), a man suffering
from Asperger's Syndrome, a
disorder which makes it difficult
for him to interact socially
besides being over sensitive
to loud noises and certain colours.
Rizwan finds love in the form
of Mandira (Kajol), a divorced
mother working as a hair stylist
in New York. Soon after their
wedding the Khans' perfect existence
gets disrupted thanks to the
infamous 9/11 attack on the
twin towers. This movie is not
just about the aftermath of
the attack, and the way the
world looked at one community
in particular; more importantly
it is about the triumph of love
and the triumph of the human
spirit.
To Karan's credit almost everything
in the film seems so natural,
so real. Take for example the
way the relationship between
Khan and Kajol is portrayed,
so subtle and beautiful and
not to mention the natural chemistry
the two share on screen; it
only makes things better.
Making a statement is one thing.
