The fight against PIRACY

When we hear the constant cry of people involved in Tamil Film Industry against piracy it’s really heart breaking. It’s not fair and can never be justified of releasing a movie even before its final touch up as it happened recently. It’s like snatching a baby from a mother’s womb even before the delivery of a baby. I think the law has to be enforced strictly with regard to this to save an industry which is the livelihood of hundreds and thousands of people who work in the field.

I think we as a community need to work with them and start to acknowledge the huge amount of effort and hardship that goes into production of each film big or small. I think first the members of the film industry has to work among themselves. Unless they leave their doors unlocked no thief is going to come to steel it. People should try to work out why a person involved in the production of a film or projection of the film has to allow someone to steel it. Either he is unaware of what he is doing or he is frustrated with the difference in status of people working in the same unit. If members of unit irrespective of what he does get the same respect and treatment as others then probably he would feel as a member of the family rather than turning into a traitor.

So where should we start to stop this piracy? Should we not start it at our house before asking others to stop it. I think if we start to accept and acknowledge the work of others then other would acknowledge ours. So the film industry should first stop steeling things like songs, stories and other aspects of a film production form anyone else. I am not saying it’s wrong to make a film or record a song based on other films or songs but accept it with open heart and if necessary speak to the concerned person who first
Piracy
did the work if you could use it in your movie and give due acknowledgement of their work.

We shouldn’t just steel stories and music from foreign people. We should learn to accept it as well as they do. For example when a famous singer from Uzbekistan sang a song from Alai Paayudhe she first puts it in her video as original music composed by A.R.Rahman and then she sings her version. What I mean to emphasize is it’s good to bring international films to Tamil platform but in your title card mention it as inspired from the original movie which was originally done by the name of that director. No one is going to blame you for it and it’s not wrong. This is not new people have translated good work in various languages to their own mother tongue so his people could also enjoy it say for example Thirukkural has been translated into various language but no one would blame that instead it was encouraged since people all over the world would know about our famous Thiruvalluvar. Similarly when you accept and acknowledge works of international movies people in Tamilnadu would be able to know about them and also appreciate your work and hardship to bring a movie of different language to them.

I think if we start to do this first then we would set an example for the community to prevent piracy and hope we could eradicate it form our society.
