Hi,
I saw the movie Vaanam recently and having seen the original Vedam in Telugu already, I expected the movie to do well in Tamil and was more eager to see the performance of Simbhu amongst others. I have to admit that I was never a fan of Simbhu and have always had a mental block when it came to his movies, thanks to his mass hero histrionics on screen. With VTV my opinion changed a bit, having seen his ability to act quite naturally.
Now with Vaanam, Simbhu has gained a lot of respect and has done a wonderful job emoting humor and sentiments with great value on screen. Vaanam is an extra ordinary movie which boasts of a good story and an engaging screen play. But, all this would go down the drain if the performance of the lead artists doesn't keep up and Vaanam has a huge star cast and the star powers have turned star performers to give the much appreciated life to the story. I would like to thank Simbhu specifically as I have been able to shed my inhibitions and have been made to realize that pre-conceived notions about an actor/director are worthless. Simbhu makes you smile, laugh, cry with him throughout the movie; a scene where he mouths dialogues like his father TR is funny and the scene where he goes to the ticket counter with money leaves a huge lump in your throat. In all, Simbhu is growing as an actor in the eyes of the audience - he is proving his worth as a performer with each movie, his mellowed acting seems to captivate hearts of people who have known to dislike his ‘style personified’ image as a star.
Simbhu is turning into an effective actor from the star he was and it is a definite welcome change as we just cannot afford to lose the wealth of talent he possesses. I am not against his 'young super star' image or his masala flicks, but I definitely find his skills engrossing enough which demands good scripts like VTV and Vaanam from time to time to bring them to the limelight. I am sure there are many out there whose opinions on Simbhu's acting would have surely changed post Vaanam and VTV.
'Talent is as common as horseshit in a stable. The cultivation of it is extremely rare' - movies like VTV and Vaanam seem to cultivate the talent of our young super star quite effectively. Rajesh Madhanagopal mailin.rajesh@gmail.com
