Burma Bazaar in parry’s corner Chennai is best known place for buying pirated DVDs/VCDs of any new released movie. Their business seems to stumble nowadays. Public have changed in their attitude and started watching movies in theatres, is the answer everyone looking for but the actual reason is pirated movies have started making their ways in almost every areas in Chennai now, especially across the streets in North Chennai areas. New released Tamil movies are sold for just Rs.30/- and other language movies are sold for as much as Rs.20/-.DVD sellers had made their contract with local police station and selling the pirated videos like hot cakes without any hitch. They make a good profit on this business and they don’t seem to fear of anti piracy Law anymore. Arresting of persons involved in piracy is just an eyewash before the public, moreover CBCID, CCB and local police have bunch of guys, who are ready to take the charge for few thousands bucks. Police arrests either during heavy pressure or those who involve in the business without their knowledge. With the enforcement of anti piracy act in Tamilnadu, film industry professions felt ease and thought soon piracy will be over but the result shows some other scenario. The fact is that, film piracy is spreading like a drug across every street and seriously needs a quick solution before majority get addicted to it. Let’s not wait for one more Jaggu Bai to leak before the release to take action, situation is already critical now. Vijay Kanth vj4film@gmail.com
