Those who read this article may find the title somewhat silly, but all this is what I wish to tell Director cum Film producer Shankar. I am one amongst the millions of your diehard fans, waiting patiently, just to get a small signature from you so that I can preserve it all my life. I am twenty years old, so it’s obvious that I grew up watching your movies. I have a collection of all your movies starting from Gentleman through Boys, to the magnum opus Endhiran. Sir, you are a Master Director, and it is no wonder at all that you stand distinguished from the other directors although, I have few questions for you as a humble fan and a movie-lover.
It's a well known truth that you always make high budget movies and the amount seems to be making headway form one movie to another, like it started with 25 Crs for Anniyan to 200Crs for Endhiran. It requires a lot of courage to first of all set a high budget corresponding to the story and screenplay. Your stories are obviously grand and meaningful, carrying a variety of true social messages. But why did you make five movies with the similar story line?? Indian, Mudhalvan, Gentleman, Anniyan and Sivaji ,all these movies had more in common when their story lines are concerned. Anniyan and Sivaji lacked scores of realism, which was noticed and pointed out by the critics, at the time of release. People of today have progressed to a greater extent, and have opened their minds such that they have stopped encouraging what we would usually call "MASALA MOVIES". I do not mean to say that Anniyan and Sivaji are such "masala movies", but the fight sequences in both these movies were very unrealistic and it seems to be imprudent of you to have spent so much money on filming them. The way you picturise your movie songs often seems similar to your previous works. I mean, you can constantly find this pattern of using "painted materials" in at least one song of your movies. Like AZHAGANA RATCHASIYE from Mudhalvan, MARO MARO from Boys, ANDANG KAKKA from Anniyan, BALLEILAKKA from Sivaji. Doesn’t it all seem very relative??
Another suggestion is that, it is not appreciable for a renowned Director like you to use a separate Comedian in a movie, as that takes the movie on separate track, there by depreciating the realistic quality of the movie. Santhanam and Karunas did not match the role of well-educated assistants to a scientist in Endhiran and so did appear Vivek's role in Sivaji. We expect reality even in comedies from a classy director such as you, Sir. So please give us timing and in sync comedies like Chitti's comedies in Endhiran. So please do avoid wasting money in just shooting songs abroad. Our country does have a lot of unraveled scenic beauty. Do make use of them. After all, nature has blessed our country with such beauty to be exploited by legends like you. Do make use Tamil speaking heroines on screen sir, as it is sad that you have not used a Tamil speaking heroine since your first movie and use heroines if they can stabilize the story any further rather than the contrary (Manisha Koirala did not seem required for the movie Mudhalvan). Introduce and mold heroines who are well versed in Tamil so that it would be a great contribution to the film industry. You are very creative Sir, so please get into collaboration with Animation studious like Pixar, Ocher, Dream works to give us a great Animated movie. We have matured, and we are eager and hungry for realistic works from you.
"SIR, we want objective existence, which is merely not an idea in your movies. We know what you are capable of, so give us lots more" Sarath Pc pcsarath21@gmail.com
