Tamil cinema is India's second largest film industry. It’s a home for distinguished actors, who have proved themselves to be a sign of authenticity and excellence. Making a movie 50 years ago was an immense attempt, which not only requires a financial background but talent and fountains of patience combined with loads of hard work.
We have witnessed the acting skills of great veterans like Sivaji Ganesan, Nagesh, R.Radha, Savitri, Gemini Ganesan and lot more to mention. Sivaji Ganesan is regarded as the greatest actor ever in the history of Tamil cinema who governed the industry not only with great acting skills but also with boundless versatility. He took up challenging roles and donned them. Actors like Sivaji, M.R.Radha, Nagesh initially started their careers on stage. It’s very difficult to give an on-stage live performance before thousands of people, as it not only requires boldness but lot of practice. Dialogue delivery was very important on those days unlike these days, where we can spot only few good Tamil speaking female characters on screen. Legendary directors like K.Balachandar, Sridhar, Bheem Singh, A.P.Nagarajan not only made movies but molded the character of the movie into the artist's giving them immeasurable magnitude of acting.
Even today there is no one to modulate voice in the funniest way as done by great comedian and actor M.R.Radha. He has made more than 5000 stage shows starting at the age of ten and he won the hearts of Tamil people in the early 1950's through movies like Ratha Kanner, Pudhiya Paravai, Paalum Pazhamum and lot more. His dual role with remarkable acting in Bale Pandiya movie that too for Maama mapley song was brilliant.
The comedy king of Tamil cinema is Nagesh. His unforgettable body language and the comedian role in several films. Who could ever forget the "Dharmi" role in Thiruvilayaadal and "Vaidhi" role in Thillana Mohanambal. He had done lots of stunning and serious roles in movies like Mounam Sammadham, Nammavar, Server Sundaram, Edhir Neechel, Neer Kumizhi etc.
The National film awards for the Best actor given since 1968, failed to provide an award to Sivaji Ganesan for films like Babu, Deivamagan, Gnana Oli, Vietnam Veedu. Irony is that Deiva Magan was India’s official entry for Oscar. In 1995 France government took lead of our government in presenting the great actor with the chevalier title. Following that in 1997, he was presented with Dadasaheb Phalke award by government of India. This shows the level of importance given by the Directorate of film festivals. Nagesh should have been presented with a lifetime achievement award for his long term contribution to the industry, but he wasn't. Even many legendary director's of south like K.Balachander, Sridhar were never given best director national award. These legends are the best though not officially announced in our country"
"The highest honor and pride an artist can get is only through an award in the category he/she belongs to. It's painful to think that best actors and directors of early days belonging to Tamil cinema were never given an award in respective categories, though they filled the heart's of people with pleasant memories"
