Kavalan was expected to be another flop for Vijay and his image was in question. Luckily for him, he chose a Malayalam film remake which ensured that he will not fail big time even if he does not win big time. As always with every Malayalam film, there would be some story and a decent portrayal of characters. Kavalan follows the same, with a simple love story with comedy and emotions and slightly different twist to the climax of the story. Vijay as an actor has performed well minus his punch dialogues and his usual unbelievable masala capabilities. I think he has surrendered himself to the director and story forgetting about his image. Hats off to Vijay for that. The recent pains for Vijay should reduce a lot after some positive word of mouth for the movie even from a NON VIJAY fan like me. Though there have been some scenes for Vijay to show his image it is not so disjoint in the film and does not make one feel bad.

The actual movie is a simple love story with an unexpected twist but a happy ending. Comedy by Vadivelu does make one laugh but one cannot expect Friends comedy. Even then he has done really well with SOLO comedy. The scenes like PARVATHI NAMBIAR for PRIVATE NUMBER are good examples. There are a few logic miss here and there with him going and joining as a Body guard and Asin loving him etc etc but with so many logic misses before in a Vijay film this does not even get noticed. The story does not need a hero like Vijay as with any good story but Vijay needed such a story. Over all it is a movie to go and enjoy with the family and sure no one would be regretting.
