It is my great pleasure to write this Letter. Recently I heard the news about your next project, which is the adaptation of Ponniyin Selvan. I didn’t know whether you are going to make this movie in the historical or contemporary sense but one thing I know is, it is going to be a wonderful experience for the audience. When it comes to filmmaking, you’re the godfather director of Indian film industry. In a recent decade, many new directors in Bollywood too are drawing inspiration from you. I personally believe Iruvar and Naayagan are the best movies ever directed by you and till date no other Indian directors have ever made movies like these. There is just one thing which I feel stops your products to reach all class audience which is complexity. Of course complexity is the gift but very few are ready to handle complexity in this easy mobile world. I feel very bad when your movie doesn’t appeal to the masses. To be frank, I was disappointed with your recently released Raavan. Though in Hindi, movie was good but in Tamil, nativity was completely lost. I felt about 15 - 20 mins footage in the first half has been missing. Let’s forget it, gone is gone. Please concentrate in Tamil industry first. We miss you here from long since. It’s not just me I am sure all of your fans feel in the same way.
My humblest request to you as your fan is kindly make it in the way appealing to the all sections of audience. For you it would be like a coming one step down from your caliber. But majority of our audiences have just simple taste, who decide the moolah and the popularity for any movie. I am not trying to tell you to make some commercial mass movie but a movie which has the combination of aesthetic sense combined with mass appeal in equal ratio. The following are the wish list which as a fan I expect from you.
- I want you to make movie like Naayagan now.
- I want you to come out to the media for the publicity of your films, since you don’t appear many ignore you.
- Since your movies are capable of bringing many Oscars, I want you to sign a Hollywood project. Many Hollywood production companies are already in Indian market.
Between your big projects I want you to make romantic movies like Alai Payudhe.
