Hi, My views of this film: After watching this film at a popular theatre in Chennai, I felt a bit disappointed. I perhaps expected a bit too much from this film. Let the audience collectively decide whether this film is good or not. But the point that I wish to make here is quite simple. I have seen a lot of Tamil films based on realism which have a lot of commercial compromises. Even the Cheran film Mayakannadi, which I liked so much for its realistic portrayal had some commercial compromises. But not this one!! After a long time, I was able to see a hard-hitting serious film .The climax is where the fate of Srilankan Tamil child Punithavadi was presented. It was so heart wrenching that I was not able to control my tears. There are quite a few issues in this film such as slow pace, lengthy first half, too much melodrama, preachy tone etc. But there are quite a few standout moments as well. There is a moment in which a pregnant Punithavadi escapes from a place. She does not know where to go and hides in a playground. An auto-driver helps her find the location where she wants to go. The auto-driver feeds her bun and helps her to drink water. LONG live such people. Another moment is where a transgender saves Punithavadhi from getting raped by unruly guys at Marina Beach. A truly special moment is just before the climax where patients in a hospital pray for her speedy recovery. I wondered why she did not get such help from her war-ravaged country. The concept of social service and helping nature of people is truly highlighted very well in this film. Regardless of the fact whether you support Srilankan Tamil issue or not, you would truly empathize with Punithavadi in this film. I watched this film nearly two days back. Still some scenes and moments remain etched in my mind. The question that I really ask myself "Did Punithavadhi really deserve this?" Whatever be the fate of this film at box office, Pughalendi Thangaraj deserves a pat on the back for conveying a true story and presenting a meaningful film without any commercial compromises. Also a special word of appreciation to Neenika who played the role of Punithavadi. She has given a very natural performance and performed like a seasoned artist. Can't just believe that this is her debut film!! Also Sathyaraj and Sangeetha shine in their respective roles. If you are willing to forgive the flaws, this film would be a memorable viewing experience. Arun chennaiarun2007@rediffmail.com
