Stephen (Jayasurya) is a colossally rich paraplegic. Having lost his dad at the age of 14, Stephen fights with his relative’s constant attempt to control his wealth. An ardent music lover & a man with an amazing humor sense, Stephan enjoys his life to his fullest amidst his disability.
An ambitious yet a struggling musician, John (Anoop Menon) makes his livelihood by singing at Night Clubs & Marriage Parties. John battles hard to bring his Music Band to light & make his younger sister a doctor. Stephan listens to John in one of the Night Clubs & gets reminded of his late buddy Srinivasan. An unlikely bond evolves between Stephan & John. Stephan begins to enjoy his life like never before with the company of John. John sings for Stephan in an intention to bring his band to light. As their friendship grows & elevates beyond Music, his intentions vanish.
As an umpteenth maid cum home nurse for Stephan, Anjali arrives. Both men get attracted to her! What happens next & how the story shapes in all about Beautiful. In an intriguing last 20 minutes, Beautiful is wonderfully crafted with great imagination & a twist! If only the director could have taken care of few finer nuances of the movie, it would have been a landmark movie of the year for Malayalam Cinema.(For instance, Stephan is also shown as someone who occasionally writes & voices for few Magazines & T.V Channels about present day relationships. Here, the director fails to provide clarity on when & how does Stephan work on these Articles & T.V shows.)
Beautiful is an example of how well a movie can be made even with a tiny storyline. Anoop Menon as the Script writer has shown immense maturity & is an excellent find for Malayalam Cinema. One wonders after watching the movie if Jomon.T. John is a new Cinematographer or someone who has been there for decades. Mind-blowing visuals, slick editing & a brilliant Screenplay make the movie a must watch! Also, not to forget Ratheesh Vegha's mind-blowing BGM.
Anoop Menon as John was brilliant as an Actor but needs to improve immensely to fetch a firm place. Jayasurya has been amazing as usual. With humor coupled all along the movie, we couldn’t have imagined anyone else doing the role this brilliantly other than Jaya! After watching Beautiful, we wish more movies like this be made & filmmakers like V.K Prakash & Anoop Menon need to be given more credit for their wonderful efforts. It’s time we stop running behind Superstars & applaud upcoming filmmakers like V.K.Prakash in Malayalam Cinema.
I am going with 3.5 /5 for Beautiful! Watch it & you won’t regret.
P.S- This is not a love story :
