Recently I was hearing a song from a yet to be released movie, which my friend was continuously playing in his car on a loop and he was raving about it .Next we enter our destination –A bachelor’s party and when the situation got High, enter this “song” and folks got even higher and the “song” was played again and again for god knows how many times. Over the course of recent times, any where there is a bunch of guys, this song is sure thing. If you haven’t guessed it right yet, this number is super hit “Kadhal en Kadhal “from “Mayakam Enna”.

For starters, I too loved the tune of this song and the frivolous mood it generates among the guys or for a matter of fact “Soup Guys” in particular. But I have my concerns over the things it subtly inserts into our mind, even though it’s the same thing which has been brewing over for long a time through various songs and movies which our film makers have been offering-MISOGYNISM.I am not sure if even this is the right word to use because ironically these songs are said to be sung by male characters who have such a deep feeling for their lady love.

This trend isn’t new for us, for we have been used to similar women hatred songs even in black and white movies and “pombalaiga kaadhala than nimbi vidathey “gaanas to our present “Yen intha kola very di” but this particular Mayakam Enna number, I feel has crossed the limits and is touching the border of “Violence against women” with the lyrics like” ADIDA AVALA, UDHADA AVALA, vidra avala theveye illa”. My fellow men may ridicule me for taking a callous cine song too serious but I am just wondering how our censor board has allowed these lyrics to be in the public. I am not acting a fatherly figure and just a twenty’s something lad who does every other guy of my age does. But  just think about it : in a country where violence against women is a serious issue and what a  song like this will embed  into the psyche of our young men-It’s Ok to bash a women because its Cool.

Even though people may put a thousand counter arguments like it just reflects the mood of an inebriated character in the movie, I am not convinced. Come on, there has to be at least a boundary line within which this has to stop and this song has crossed it. I just wish from here on our movie makers are a bit more responsible about what they put on sale even though if it sells well and its Kewl.
