SMS, BEB were the benchmarks that Rajesh might have been looking to emulate but this time he cranksit up a notch. With a debut actor in Udayanidhi Stalin, Rajesh certainly has managed to get the bestof whatever he can out of him; Hansika makes the screen a pretty picture with her presence. EnterSanthanam whose previous associations with Rajesh had expectations to make our funny bones tickle. But for this time “HE BRINGS THE HOUSE DOWN” as Partha (Parthasarathy). Here we get to see hischaracter working as a chauffeur driving his ‘Karagatakkaran’ car. He seems to be the perfect foil forUday, rather Uday being a perfect foil for Santhanam. We might start to see a new legendary rapportbuilding between Santhanam & Rajesh now delivering 3 hits in a row. Uday as Saravanan plays boy next door, without having to portray too much of emotions towhich most of the urban youth will connect. Saranya playing the fun mom who is struggling to passdegree 25 years into marriage is really funny although why she is forced to do that by her husbandis a bit off pace. Santhanam as Partha is everywhere in the movie. Watched movie at a multiplex inBangalore where the audience normally is very subtle but today it was whistles all round, claps hoots.Whistles hit roof when “Venam machan venam indha ponnungo kadhalu”. Santhanam’s act must get aspecial mention here especially the flight scenes where he is just fabulous, never seen a theatre whistleso much except for Superstar’s movies. “Saavara time le parachute vechikittu na ennanga pannuven”gets everybody ROFL. Hansika has a long way to go before she can catch up with Kushboo, She needs toimprove her sync to get better, and maybe she can learn a trick or 2 from Saranya on her acting. Saranyaperforms her role marvellously. A performance worthy of a National award winner indeed. The girl meets boy, boy falls in love, chases girl, girl falls in love too, they drift apart, is thebasically the crux of the story. The director has used his formula which works the best from his previousfilms, having Arya to do it again this time, (the job of getting the hero back with the girl). Sneha &Andrea appear in a blink and miss role. Azhagam Perumal does well. Music certainly has done a great job which is a major plus for the movie; Harris Jayaraj pulls itoff once again this time, giving us hummable melodies and a Gana like Vena macha vena. Although thechoreographer has gone back to his school days, with so many moves resembling the school exercisesand takes us back to Bhagyaraj’s dance moves. Cinematography is really good with so many scenes shotat the busiest places like roads and malls in Chennai which look quite natural. To sum it up, not often one gets to launch oneself. But Uday has launched himself in a movieperfectly written executed for him courtesy Rajesh and the Man who steals the show Santhanam. Aneffort to make us laugh and they have succeeded in that.
