It
could easily be called the film of Vikram’s
career. Bala brought a new dimension to his
screen persona by giving him the role which
did not require dialogues. In contrast to Surya’s
slimy character, Vikram as the emotionally
deranged
undertaker with a heart of gold was eloquent
without even uttering a word. The wrenching
climax was the highlight of the film. Ilayaraja’s
music was a big plus for the film. He won the
National award for best actor by overtaking
veteran Kamal Hassan who had been nominated
for Anbe Sivam.
