One of the reasons for Saravana turning out to be below expectations was the lack of chemistry between Jo and Simbu. She looked more like his elder sister than his lady love. The hit pair of Manmadhan faltered in Saravana. Simbu is said to be seriously thinking about it. In the meantime, Lakshmi Movie Makers wanted to do a Simbu film with director Durai, yes, of Thotti Jaya fame. It was Durai who sculpted a decent and realistic role for Simbu in Thotti Jaya. If the movie was a hit, Durai played a major role. Initially Simbu okayed the movie for Lakshmi Movie Makers but then, later he went back for reasons known only to him.
