Shimit Amin, the man behind Indian woman's hockey team’s win in the world cup in 'Chak De India' is now going to make Ranbir the salesman of the year. Ranbir is fresh after the super-success of 'Ajab prem ki..' last month and 'Wake up Sid' the month before that. This could very well be the hattrick movie for him and a hit for Shimit Amin. The marketing has been quite poor except for the interesting ads in the papers and some cute trailers but being a Yash Raj film it’s quite a disappointing campaign. But still people want to see more of the most promising actor Bollywood has gained in quite a while. Can the Ajab actor and the award winning director be able to finish their hattrick?

First and foremost, like 'Chak de', Rocketsingh is not your regular Yash Raj presentation. It is a movie which is about the work culture in today’s times and the need for us to think about people than going blindly behind money. After getting inspired from Miracle, Shimit Amin gets inspired by Jerry Maguire. Rocket Singh can easily be said as one of the better movies released this year but slightly missed the bus on becoming the best.
  Rocket singh

The movie is about young Harpreet Singh who is happy and content with his world and all he wants to do is to become a salesman. He gets his shot in a computer sales and service company, AYS. In the corporate world of politics and bribery, Harpreet wants to be honest. This very attitude backfires and he becomes a nobody in the office. After being ridiculed beyond his acceptance level, decides to start his own company while working for AYS. He, with the help of 4 of his colleagues, starts 'Rocket Corporation', which works on the missed jobs of AYS but their main principle being honesty and sincerity. Soon with impressive sales skills and sales strategy, Rocket Corporation becomes big and starts competing with the very firm they work in. Will AYS find out about the competition inside their own roof? How long can honesty sustain in the corporate culture? Find out in the theatre near you.

Shimit Amin and writer Jaideep Sahni have relied on reality than working on some fantasy tale and that elevates the movie to greatness. It’s a simple story well told and is believable too. Every step taken by Harpreet seems not just believable but is also logical. But the major glitch in the movie is the pace of the movie, it takes its own sweet time to unravel. The first half is very slow and if 15 minutes are taken off from the first half this movie will surely become crisper. The climax is also well thought of but too many dialogues in the scene affects the overall impact to an extent. Apart from that there are very little mistakes that Shimit did in this uplifting tale of honesty and righteousness in the corrupt world. There are several great moments in the film like the time when AYS MD talks on the phone with Rocket corporation's MD Harpreet not knowing that he is just talking across the office floor, the time when the peon blasts a senior sales manager when he threatens to tell AYS MD about Rocket Corporation, or the Rocket Corporation's first meeting in the men’s toilet and so on.

Cinematography by Vikash Nowlakha's is decent with lot of close-ups and over the shoulder shots. The editing needs to improve as some of the transitions are not that impressive either. The background and music by Salim - Sulaiman is brilliant. Dialogues by Jaideep Sahni are a little lengthy but real good.

The entire movie rests on the able shoulder of Ranbir and he has taken the task and has showed brilliance in every single scene. Check out the time when his dadaji presents him with a scooter, or when he is being embarrassed by his boss in front of a client, his facial expressions in these and the rest of the scenes across the movie are perfect. Prem Chopra as Ranbir's grandfather oozes love and affection and has come up with a cracker of a performance. Prem Chopra should be preserved and used properly than using him in mindless comedies as a back-seater. D. Santosh gets a meaty role after a long time and he has made complete use of it. Gauahar Khan is exceptional; Mukesh Bhatt does his role with conviction. And both Manish Chaudhari and Naveen Kaushik are brilliant in their roles. Shazahn Padamsee has a small role and hasn't impressed either.

Overall the movie is a brilliant attempt in making sensible yet entertaining cinema. The movie aiming at a niche audience may not be able to sustain long at the box-office thanks to Avtaar coming next week and 3 idiots the week after that but a movie like this has to be preserved. The movie can test your patience, but at the end of it you will surely have a feel good factor. Both Shimit Amin and Ranbir deliver big time. It’s a heartfelt movie about the need for Corporates to think about the consumers and not only about the returns.

Verdict: Rocket Singh will rocket Ranbir to the big league.
